The Rift

Rosello Architecture

A cut in the earth made to be inhabited. Architecture emerges from the rift, revealing the landscape and framing the lake. What begins as a simple incision in the terrain gradually unfolds into a sequence of spaces where ground, structure, and horizon become inseparable.

The built form does not impose itself on the site; instead, it grows from it, following the natural slope and embracing the topography. Walls appear as extensions of the earth, guiding movement and directing views toward the water and the distant landscape. Light filters through the opening, accentuating the depth of the cut and tracing shifting shadows along the surfaces throughout the day.

Inside, the architecture feels both sheltered and open. The mass of the ground provides a sense of protection, while the framed horizon constantly reconnects the interior with the surrounding landscape. Each space becomes a threshold between enclosure and vastness, between the intimacy of the earth and the expansive presence of the lake.

In this way, the project transforms a simple gesture—a fracture in the terrain—into a place of dwelling, contemplation, and quiet dialogue with the landscape.
